If you want to know about a composer of hymn tunes, and what tunes he or she composed, the first task is to identify the composer. You can choose either to look for tunes definitely known to have been written by this composer, or for tunes attributed to this composer (rightly or wrongly) in any printed source. Use the checkboxes to select composers, then click on the Submit button of the Find Citations form at the bottom of this page. It is an easy step from the list of citations (printings of tunes) to the tunes themselves.
- If you know the composer's name, search:
- Find a composer where the - Composer's last name - starts with - (type the composer's last name)
- Some tunes are wrongly attributed to a composer. The HTI staff has assigned a composer to a tune only when there is good evidence. If you want to find all the tunes attributed to a composer in any source, try this:
- Find a composer where the - Attribution in a source - starts with - (type the person's last name)
- Attributions have been standardised in the database to last name and initial. Some refer to collections from which a tune was taken. Keep in mind that many tune attributions found in sources are incorrect. If you wish to search tunes by verified composers’ names, then search by Composer's last name.
